Dear student,

Almost everyone from the age of one onwards can donate eyes. There is no age limit to become an eye donor. No matter if you have a poor eyesight or have had cataract surgery, if you're young or old, have hypertension or diabetes, you can donate your eyes without any concerns. Even a person who has lost his/her sight due to retinal or optic-nerve related disease can donate eyes, given that the cornea is unclouded.

Cornea is the clear front surface and the main focusing part which allows enter of light to the eye. Corneal blindness is the visual impairment which is caused usually when the cornea becomes clouded.

Causes of corneal blindness
There are many corneal blindness causes, some of which are as follows:

Vitamin A deficiency: Vitamin A is very important for the maintenance of the eye health and also for preventing various infectious conditions. Thus, a deficiency in vitamin A can also lead to corneal blindness.
Infections from microorganisms: The after effects of infections from microorganisms such as bacterial infections, vital infections or fungal infections.
Traditional medicines: In some cases, the traditional medicines could also cause damage to the cornea, resulting in corneal blindness.

Eye trauma or injury: During an accident or an injury to the eye cornea can also lead to corneal blindness.
