CBSE Class 7 Answered
Accumulation of undigested food in the body of an organism can cause problems like:
(a) Nutrient Deficiencies:
The main purpose of digestion is to break down food into nutrients that the body can absorb and use for energy and growth.
If food is not digested properly, the organism will not get the required nutrients and this will lead to health problems due to nutrient deficiencies.
(b) Blockages:
The undigested food can clog the digestive system and this can lead to blockages that prevent food from moving through properly. This can also cause cramps, pain and even vomiting.
(c) Production of Toxins inside the body:
Food that accumulates for a long time can rot and ferment. This can produce toxins that are harmful to the living organism. These toxins can damage the digestive system and other organs, and can even be fatal in severe cases.
(d) Unbalanced gut:
The digestive system is home to both good and bad bacteria. Undigested food can disrupt the balance of these bacteria, allowing harmful bacteria to overgrow. This can lead to a variety of digestive issues leading to diarrhoea, constipation and bloating.
