The pancreas is located behind the stomach. It is an exocrine as well as an endocrine gland. The exocrine part pours its secretion i.e. pancreatic juice into the duodenum through the pancreatic duct. The endocrine part of the pancreas comprises a special group of cells known as Islets of Langerhans.
Exocrine function: Helps with digestion by producing enzymes that break down food, especially proteins.
Endocrine function: Regulates blood sugar by producing the hormone insulin and the polypeptide hormone glucagon. Insulin promotes the uptake and utilization of glucose by tissues, while glucagon facilitates glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.
