1. Parathyroid hormone (PTH), also called parathormone or parathyrin, is a peptide hormone secreted by the parathyroid glands. The parathyroid hormone stimulates the following functions:
Release of calcium by bones into the bloodstream
Absorption of calcium from food by the intestines
Conservation of calcium by the kidneys
2. The parathyroid glands lie just behind the thyroid glands in the neck. The parathyroid glands (light pink glands) produce parathyroid hormone.
3. The thymus is a specialized primary lymphoid organ of the immune system. It is located in the upper front part of the chest. The thymus produces progenitor cells, which mature into T-cells (thymus-derived cells). The body uses T-cells help destroy infected or cancerous cells. T-cells created by the thymus also help other organs in the immune system grow properly.
