Expert Answer:
Osmosis is the process by which molecules of water passes through a semipermeable membrane from a region og higher water concentration to a region of lower water concentration.
Osmosis is of two types - Exosmosis and endosmosis.
When water is transferred into cell's cytoplasm, it is called endosmosis and occurs when the cell is hypertonic compared to its medium.
When water passes from cell's cytoplasm to outside, it is called exosmosis and occurs when the cell is hypotonic compared to its medium.
