Expert Answer
A vector is a quantity having magnitude as well as direction.
A vector which is directed along one direction, that is left, right, top or bottom, etc. is said to be directed in one dimension.
Now, if a vector is directed along two dimensions, say top and right, then we consider that the vector is made up of two parts.
Each part of the vecctor is then called component of that vector.
Similarly, a 3-D vector will have three components.
Let us say that the vector A is directed such that it is inclined at an angle ? with the x-axis.
Then, the component of the vector along x-axis is found as Ax = A cos ?, and the component along y-axis is found as Ay = A sin ?.
