Expert Answer
Part (a)
Acceleration = ( vf - vi ) / Δt
when the body moves from O to A , vf = 4 m/s , vi = 0 m/s and Δt = 4 s
Acceleration = 4 / 4 = 1 m/s2
--------------------------------------------------
Part (b)
As per text , distance covered from O to A is area under the part of the curve O to A .
Area under O to A is area of triangle .
Hence distance covered = (1/2) × 4 × 4 = 8 m
As per figure , distance covered from A to B is area under the part of the curve A to B .
Area under A to B is area of rectangle .
Hence distance covered = 4 × 6 = 24 m
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Part (c)
Acceleration = ( vf - vi ) / Δt
when the body moves from B to C , vf = 0 m/s , vi = 4 m/s and Δt = 6 s
Acceleration = -4 / 6 = -2/3 m/s2 = -0.667 m/s2
