(i)  The process should take place very slowly, so that it satisfies the following requirements :

(a)  The system should be in thermal equilibrium.

(b)  The system should be in mechanical equilibrium.

(c)  The system should be in chemical equilibrium.

(ii)  There should be no fricitional losses.

A process in which the system passes through a continuous sequence of equilibrium states is said to be quasi-static, i.e., apparently static.

Answer the following questions : (i)  A piece of iron is hammered.  Does the internal energy of the iron increase?  Does the heat enter the piece of the iron from outside? The P - V diagram for a cyclic process is a triangle ABC drawn in order.  The co-ordinates of A, B, C are (4,1), (2,4), and (2,1).  The co-ordinates are in the order (P-V).  Pressure is in Nm-2 and volume is in litre.  Calculate work done during the process from A to B, B to C, and C to A.  Also, calculate work done in the complete cyclic.
