Sir i wanted to know why people taking lot of salty food experience water retention? What happens to the blood cells in this case?Do they shrink or swell and why?

  • When the red blood cells are kept in a concentration saline solution, the water will come out of the caells and the cell will shrink.
  • This is because the concentration of the solution outside the cells is higher than inside the cells.
  • Hence due to osmosis, water comes out of the cell to maintain equilibrium in the cocentrations of the solutions between both inside and outside of the cells.
