Shruti cycles to her school at an average speed of 18 km/h. It takes her 30 minutes to reach her school. If she wants to reach her school in 20 minutes, what should be her average speed?

If Shruti wants to reach her school early, she has to increase her speed. Thus it is a case of inverse variation.

Writing the numbers in the form of table, we have

 Speed (in km/h) 18 x Time (in min) 30 20

Now in case of inverse variation, the product of quantities will remain same. Therefore

Hence, Shruti has to increase her speed to 27 km/h.
