sec2θ - tan2θ = 1

 hence if secθ + tanθ = p  , then secθ - tanθ = 1/p
 
secθ + tanθ = p  ...................(1)
secθ - tanθ = 1/p ...................(2)
 
By adding the two equations we get,   secθ = (1/2) [ p+(1/p) ]...............(3)
