Rahul applies a force of 6 kgf to lift a 4 kg bucket from a well using a single fixed pulley. Assuming the additional force applied to be to overcome frictional force. Find the (1) frictional force (2) mechanical advantage (3) efficiency of the system.

Let us consider, acceleration due to gravity g = 10 m/s2
 
Load = 4kgf = 40 N
 
Effort = 6kgf = 60 N
 
friction force = ( 60-40 ) N = 20 N
 
Mechanical advantage = 40/60 = 2/3
 
For fixed single pulley, velocity ratio is 1
 
Efficiency = ( Mechanical advantage ) / (velocity ratio ) = 2/3
