Expert Answer:
Dear Student
1. Wood alcohol is methanol. Because it was once produced chiefly as a byproduct of the destructive distillation of wood.
2. To prepare secondary alcohol which has feneral structural unit C-C(OH)-C, we need a substrate which can provide this form. The reaction with formaldehyde (HCHO) leads to a primary alcohol.
We hope that clarifies your query.
