Let m1 be the weight of the copper and m2 be the weight of the steel.
Centre of mass of rod is given as,
Let x1 be the reference distance, so it can be considered to be zero.
x2 is other end so it can be equated to total length of the rod thus, take it to be x.
Substituting, we get,
xcm = (9 x 0 + 8x)/ (9+8) = 8x/17
xcm = 0.4705 of total length of rod.
