Dear Student,
H2SO4 and HNO3 both are strong acids.
HSO4− is a conjugate base of H2SO4 acid.
HNO3− is a conjugate base of HNO3 acid.
Between H2SO4 and HNO3 acids, H2SO4 is stronger. Hence, when these two acids are mixed, the below reaction takes place.
H2SO4 + HNO3 → HSO4− + NO2− + H2O
In the above reaction,
H2SO4 acts as acid and HNO3 acts as base.
Therefore, HSO4− is conjugate base of H2SO4.
And NO2− is conjugate acid of HNO3.
