Expert Answer:

1. SInce A (C8H16O2) on hydrolysis with dilute sulphuric acid gives a carboxylic acid and alcohol, means that A is an ester.

2. Alcohol C on oxidation with chromic acid gives B. This means that both B and C contain same number of carbon atoms.

3. Therefore, A is CH3CH2CH2COOCH2CH2CH2CH3 , B is CH3CH2CH2COOH and C is CH2CH2CH2CH2OH

4. C on dehydration gives but-1-ene .

CH2CH2CH2CH2OH             CH2CH2CH=CH2
