CBSE Class 12-science Answered

give reason why trichloro acetic acid has more acidic character than monochloro acid
Asked by ygarg8323 | 18 Apr, 2022, 12:47: PM
Expert Answer
In trichloroacetic acid there are 3 electron-withdrawing group(Cl) which draw electron away from the carboxyl end of the molecule, creating a partial positive charge on the carboxyl group and decreases the charge density on O−H bond and allowing easier removal of the positively charged Hydrogen ion, H + than acetic acid.
