Expert Answer
Let x is the distance from mountain at location C where the angle of elevation of top of mountain is 60º.
At D which is away from C at a distance 900√3 m, let the angle of elevation of top of mountain is 30°.
we have, tan 60 = (h/x) = √3 or h = x √3 .........................(1)
we have, tan 30 = [ h / (x+900√3) ] = 1/√3 or h = (x+900√3) / √3 .................(2)
from (1) and (2), we have , x √3 = (x+900√3) / √3 or 3x = x+900√3 or x = 450√3 m
By substituting x in eqn.(1), we get h = 450 m
