CBSE Class 10 Answered

It is desired to obtain an erect image of an object, using concave mirror of focal length of 15 cm. Where should we place the object? Where will the image of this object be, if it is placed at 30 cm in front of the mirror? Draw a ray diagram for this situation also to justify your answer.

As shown in figure, To get an erect image from concave mirror ,
object should be placed between pole P  and focal point of mirror .

Image is erect, magnified and virtual .

It is given that focal length of concave mirror is 15 cm .
Hence distance between object and pole of mirror should be less than 15 cm

--------------------------------------------

Given focal length or F-point is 15 cm . hence 2F-point or Radius of curvature is 30 cm .

In concave mirror, if object is placed at 2F point , real inverted image is also formed at 2F point ,
size of image is same as that of object .

Hence if object is at 30 cm in front of concave mirror of focal length 15 cm ,
then inverted real image of same size is formed at 30 cm as shown in the ray diagram
