Is i + j a unit vector? Explain.

No, unit vector is the one which has magnitude =1 
Here let a = i + j 
|a| = sqrt(1^2 + 1^2)
|a| = sqrt(2) which is not equal to 1. 
hence i + j is not a unit vector.
