CBSE Class 10 Answered
In an A.P., if S6 + S7 = 167 and S10 = 235, then find the A.P., where Sn denotes the sum of its
first n terms.

Let a be the first term and d be the common difference of A.P
S6 + S7 = (6/2) [ 2a+5d ] + (7/2) [2a+6d] = 13a + 36d = 167 ..................(1)
S10 = (10/2) [ 2a + 9d ] = 235 or 2a + 9d = 47 ......................................(2)
By solving eqn.(1) and (2), we get a = -21/5, d = 277/45
