Im chemistry, what does it mean "the equilibrium state favours products or the reactants ? favored to what?

It is supposed that in a complete chemical reaction reactants are combined and formed one or more products.
But sometimes all reactants are not used up this happens because an equilibrium occurs where both reactant and products are present.
In an equilibrium reaction, if there are more products present than reactant the reaction favors the product.
And if there are more reactants than products then the reaction favors the reactants.
