In first part of ascent, vertical distance S1 travelled is given by, .............................(1)
velocity u after time t is given by, u = a×t
for second part of ascent, let us use the equation of motion " v2 = u2-2aS " to get the vertical distance S2 using the condition, final velocity v=0.
hence, we have
total depth, S1 + S2 = (3/4)×a×t2
