how to prepare alkene from alkyne

Alkynes can be reduced to either E- or Z- alkenes by selecting proper reaction conditions. Reaction in presence of metal catalyst such as the Lindlar catalyst (Pd/CaCO3) will result in Z-alkenes whereas use of an alkali metal such as sodium dissolved in ammonia will result in E-alkenes.
