A  Propene to propane

Dihydrogen gas adds to alkenes in the presence of finely divided catalyst like platinium, palladium, or nickel to form alkanes. This process is called hydrogenation.

CH3 – CH = CH2 + H2                    CH3 – CH2 – CH3

                                                                              Propane
