Classification of units :-   (i ) Fundamental units  and (ii) derived units 
 
(i) Fundamental units are  given in table below

Luminance   Candela ( Ca )
Amount of substance Mole  ( mole) 
 
 
(ii) Derived units are expressed in terms of fundamental units 
 
Quantity Units
Area = Length × Length       m2 
Volume = Length × Length × Length   m3 
Density = mass / volume  kg / m3
speed = distance / time  m / s
acceleration = change in speed / time   m / s2
Force = mass × acceleration   N = kg m /s2
Workdone = force × distance  J = N × m
