Isotonic has same solute concentration as the cell, whereas hypotonic solution has less solute concentration and hypertonic solution has more solute concentration than the cell.

When the cell is placed in these solutions separately, endosomosis occurs in hypotonic solution whereas exosmosis occurs in hypertonic solution. No diffusion of water occurs in isotonic solution.

Cell will swell when placed in hypotonic solution, whereas it will shrink in hypertonic solution. No change occurs in cell size when placed in isotonic solution.
