Energy for n=infinity
Asked by | 23rd Feb, 2010, 09:34: PM
Dear student,
The energy levels in an atom are taken as negative numbers, so that atinfinity (totally ionised) the electron has a potential energy of zero. The energy of ionisation is the energy to raise the electron's energy to zero.
Hope this helps.
