Steps of construction:

i. Draw AB = 7cm.

ii. Through A draw AP making any suitable angle with AB.

iii. Since AB is to be divided in the proportion 2: 3: 4 and 2 + 3 + 4 = 9; make 9equal parts (of any suitable length) on AP.

iv. Mark 2nd, 5th and 9th parts as C, D and E respectively.

v. Join BE.

vi. Through C and D draw lines parallel to BE which meet AB at points L and M respectively.

Thus, AL: LM: MB is 2: 3: 4
