Expert Answer
- The resolving power of an astronomical telescope is defined as the reciprocal of the smallest angular separation between two point objects whose images can just be resolved by the telescope.
- It depends on the wavelength of the light emitting from the source and the diameter of the aperture of the objective lens.
- It may also be defined as, the smallest angular separation between two heavenly bodies that can be distinguished by a telescope
- When the aperture of the objective lens is increased, the resolving power increases.
- When the wavelength of the light is increased, the resolving power decreases.
