3) When RBCs are placed in concentrated salt solution, water will flow out of the cell and into the salt solution, since salt water is hypertonic as compared to within the cell. Gradually the RBCs undergo shrinkage and forms abnormal notchings around its edges. This phenomenon is known as crenation.
