Let R be the radius of earth . Let us consider a point B which is at a distance r from centre of earth so that r > R .

Acceleration due to gravity gB at B is

If acceleration due to gravity gB is half of that of at a point A on surface of earth , then

Then from above expression , we get

r = √2 R
