Xenon is able to form compounds because of the size of the xenon atom. Helium, neon, and argon gases are considerably smaller and hence have not been found to form compounds. Krypton does form the difluoride under special conditions. The large size of xenon places its outermost electrons at a considerable distance from the nucleus. It makes them to attract for the extremely electronegative fluorine.
