An object covers (16.0+- 0.4)m distance in (4.0+- 0.2)s . Find out its speed

Speed = Distance   / time

Distance  d ± Δd = 16 ± 0.4

Time  t ± Δt  = 4 ± 0.2

Speed v = (d/t) ± Δv

Since division is performed to get speed ,

relative error in speed ( Δv / v ) = ( Δd / d ) + ( Δt / t )

( Δv / v ) = ( 0.4 / 16 ) + ( 0.2 / 4 ) = 0.075

speed without uncertaintity = d/ t = 16 / 4 = 4 m/s

Hence error in speed Δv = 0.075 × 4 = 0.3 m/s

Speed with uncertaintity = 4 ± 0.3  m/s
