A train, travelling at a uniform speed for 360 km, would have taken 48 minutes less to travel the same distance if its speed were 5 km/h more. Find the original speed of the train.

Let u be initial speed in km/hr .
Time spent to travel 360 km = ( 360 / u ) hr
Time spent to travel 360 km , if speed is ( u + 5 ) km/hr = 360 / ( u+5) hr
we have,
![begin mathsize 14px style 360 over u minus space fraction numerator 360 over denominator u plus 5 end fraction space equals space 48 space m i n space equals space 4 over 5 space h r end style](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/a9abb70a97c4d7dbfc5f625d15e557b0.png)
![begin mathsize 14px style fraction numerator 5 cross times 360 over denominator u space left parenthesis space u space plus space 5 space right parenthesis end fraction space equals space 4 over 5 end style](https://images.topperlearning.com/topper/tinymce/cache/9e63b4cc2364c7d7cd19dbe47020c758.png)
u ( u + 5 ) = 2250
u2 + 5u - 2250 = 0
By solving above quadratic equation , we get u = 45 km/hr
