A dynamometer D is attatced to two masses =3kg and =5 kg. Forces of = 9N & = 25N are applied to the masses as shown :

Let m1 of mass 3 kg and m2 of mass 5 kg are connected to dynamometer as shown in figure.
Let D is the force pulling the masses towards dynamometer.
Let a be the acceleration of masses due to the forces acting on them.
Newtons law applied to m1 : D - 9 = 3×a ........................(1)
Newtons law applied to m2 : 25 - D = 5×a ........................(2)
By adding eqns.(1) and (2), we get 16 = 8×a or a = 2 m/s2
by substituting a in eqn.(1), we get, D = 15 N . Hence dynamometer will read 15 N
