A bullet of mass 2g from moves with a velocity of the 300  metre per second it  strikes a tree and penetrate  to a depth of 5 cm before coming to rest what is the change in the bullets kinetic energy how much work does the tree do on the bullet what is the average retarding force  of bullet

Retardation a is obtained from the formula " v2 = u2 - 2×a×S " with final speed v = 0.

retardation a = u2 / (2S) = (300×300)/(2×5×10-2) = 9×105 m/s2

Resistive Force = mass × retardation = 2×10-3×9×105 = 1800 N

Workdone = Force×distance = 1800×5×10-2 = 90 J

Change in Kinetic Energy = (1/2)×m×u2 = (1/2)×2×300×300 = 90 J
