A ball of mass 10g falls from a height of 5 m. It rebounds from the ground to a height of 4 m.Find: initial P.E. of the ball K.E. of ball just before it strikes the ground K.E. of the ball after striking the ground LOSS  IN K.E. ON STRINKING THE GROUND.

Initial potential energy = mgh = 10×10-3×9.8×5 = 0.49 J

when it jus before striking the ground all the initial potential energy is converted into kinetic energy.

Hence kinetic energy just before striking the ground = 0.49 J

when it rebounds to height 4 m, its final potential energy = 10×10-3×9.8×4 = 0.392 J

Kinetic energy after striking the ground is converted into final potential energy at 4 m height.

Hence kinetic energy after striking the ground = 0.392 J

loss in kinetic energy = 0.49 - 0.392 ≈ 0.1 J
