The Olympiad exams are conducted to promote Science, Mathematics and English knowledge among students. The exams are a way to motivate students to widen their horizons and get a deeper understanding of the related subjects. It is important to be well prepared for these exams.
The nodal centre of the country for Olympiad programmes is Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education. National Science Olympiad (NSO), National Cyber Olympiad (NCO), International Mathematics Olympiad (IMO) and International English Olympiad (IEO) have gained a lot of importance in schools.
Tips for Olympiad Exams
Better Understanding of the Syllabus: To score good marks in the Olympiads, you have to know your entire syllabus. Check the syllabus of your class and start your preparations accordingly.
Prepare in Advance: Last minute preparations will not work for the Olympiads. You should have a good knowledge of the basics. Olympiads are designed to test your understanding on the related subjects. Therefore, the questions are such that you will only be able to answer them if you understand the topic really well.
Practice: Sample papers for Olympiads are easily available. All you need to do is start solving them. Sample papers will give you an idea on the kind of questions asked.
Self-assessment: When you are done with practising and revising, do not forget to assess yourself. Attempt mock tests and analyse your results. This will give you an idea of where you stand when it comes to the Olympiads.
Make Notes: While you are practising things, make note of important points. These notes will serve as quick notes during last minute revisions.
Procedure which Olympiads Follow
Of various students appearing for the Olympiad exams, only about 400 students get selected in each subject. The selected students then appear in the Indian National Olympiads which are held at various centres in India.
Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSE): It is organised by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE). Here, only 30 students are selected from each group for this 20–30-day camp. Students are trained for the International Olympiads.
Finally, these students represent India in the International Olympiads held in July–August every year.
