 Write the number of periods the modern periodic table has state the changes in  metallic character and atomic size of elements as we move from left to right in a period .Also state the changes if any in the valency and atomic size of elements as we move down a group

The modern periodic table has seven periods, also known as rows.
 
Metallic character:
When we move from left to right the size of atoms of the elements is decreases due to the increase in their nuclear charge.
Since the nuclear charge increases, the tendency to lose electrons decreases. Hence the metallic character decreases
 
Valency
Valency is determined by the number of valence electrons present in the atom of the elements.
when we move from left to right the valency of the element increases from 1 to 4 ( positive valency) and then decreases from 4 to 0 (negative valency).
