Why is the blood pressure more in the arteries than in veins?

Arteries carry blood from the heart to the tissues. The heart actively pumps blood. Blood in the arteries is directly under the pumping action of the heart, and with a small lumen, it is always under high pressure. The veins carry blood in the opposite direction. The tissues do not pump the blood like the heart. The blood pressure drops after the blood passes through the capillaries, and with a larger lumen, reducing the resistance to allow blood flow at a lower pressure, veins have a lower blood pressure. Hence, arterial blood pressure is higher than venous blood pressure.
