CBSE Class 10 Answered
Why Glass And water Is transperent?
Asked by vedantsagrawal23 | 13 Aug, 2019, 07:40: PM
Expert Answer
In simple terms both are transparent because there is no absorption in the visible region.
In order for an object not to be transparent it must absorb photons or scatter them.
Glass being amorphous (not having a crystalline structure) will not scatter light and
there is not enough energy in the photons to excite the electrons of the atoms to move
them to a different energy level so the light passes unabsorbed through the glass
making it transparent. Water will behave the same way for the same reasons.
