what will be the valency of an element having atomic number (z)=7 ? Can you pls suggest step wise methods to solve this problem.

Hi Amrut,

The combining capacity of the element is called valency.

If the atomic number of the given element is 7 then,

The electronic configuration will be (2, 5). That is, it will have 2 electrons in its K shell and 5 electrons in the L shell

Thus, it will require 3 more electrons to complete its octet.Thus according to the definition, the valency of an element will be 3.
