A neutral atom contains equal number of protons and neutrons.
But here, number of electrons are greater than number of protons. This means it is ion. And as electrons are more than protons it is anion.
An ion with 17 protons is Chloride ion.
a) The Chloride ion is formed by gaining 1 electrons thus its valency is 1.
b)
There are 17 protons and 18 electrons in X.
Number of neutrons = 18
c)
Mass number of X = number of neutrons + number of protons = 18 + 17 = 35
