Expert Answer
Gases that trap heat in the atmosphere are often called greenhouse gases. These gases absorb and emit radiation within the thermal infrared range. This process is the fundamental cause of the greenhouse effect. Greenhouse gases greatly affect the temperature of the Earth.
Green house is a building made up of glass in which plants are grown. The building made up of glass absorbs the heat of the Sun but does not allow it to go out. This increases the temperature inside the glass building. Similarly, due to the presence of many green house gases in atmosphere like Carbon dioxide which absorbs sun’s energy does not reflect it back into the space, leading to the increase in temperature of the Earth. This results in global warming.
