P = 0.01 cos(1000t -3x)   ..................(1)

Above eqn. represents the pressure variation when longitudinal sound wave travels in air

P stands for pressure.

Pressure amplitude Pmax and displacement amplitude A are related as,

Pmax = ρ us ω A  ...................(2)

where ρ is density, us is speed of sound, ω is angular velocity.

density of air ρ = 1.2 kg/m3

speed of sound us = [ B / ρ ]1/2 = [ 1.4 × 105 / 1.2 ]1/2 ≈ 342 m/s

Displacement amplitude A = Pmax / ( ρ us ω ) = 0.01 / ( 1.2 × 342 × 1000 ) = 2.44 × 10-8 m
