If switch is initially at A means, it is assumed that capacitor is connected to
40 V voltage source for sufficiently long time  through 5kΩ resistor.
 
Let us assume switch is now operated at t = 0 so that contact is made at B,
then capacitor discharging through 2 kΩ resistor
 
Initial voltage across capacitor plates is 40 V
 
Then voltage v(t) across plates as a function of time is given by,
