If light is an electromagnetic wave then why does it remain unchanged in an electric/magnetic field?

Expert Answer
Light is an electromagnetic wave and it cannot be deflected by electric or magnetic field as they do not consist of any charged particles. Electromagnetic waves merely propage in the form of electric and magnetic fields varying both in space and time. Thus we can say that electromagnetic waves being uncharged are not deflected by electric or magnetic field.
