How does crop rotation help soil fertility

Different kinds of plants require different types of nutrients. Changing crops on a regular basis maintain the fertility of the soil because not all of the same nutrients are used continusely in every season. For example, planting legumes, such as soybeans, helps to replenish necessary nitrogen in the soil. Thus, legumes are grown in rotation with other crops.
