British India was partitioned into India and Pakistan in August 1947. Pakistan comprised of West and East Pakistan (present day Bangladesh). Though the partition took place on the religious lines, there were linguistic and many ideological differences between the people of West and East Pakistan. West Pakistan tried to assert its influence over the East Pakistan and did not give a national status to 'Bengali' language but wanted to impose 'Urdu' as the language of East Bengal. 

It is also believed that the economic neglect and exploitation of the east by the west Pakistan further created the conflict. Data shows that the less populated west allocated itself more money than the more populous East Pakistan. Moreover, the army of West Pakistan also was suppressing the people of East Pakistan and committed atrocities over the people. 

Hence, due to the above reasons, Pakistan was partitioned and a new country of Bangladesh was created in 1947.
